Constraint breeds productivity

Had to fit a full day of work into 4 hours today. My kiddos go to school quite a ways away from our house, and today I had to pick ‘em up early.

And wouldn’t ya know, when you have a severe time constraint you tend to still finish everything you need to.

→ Productivity: 9/10

→ Creativity: 5/10

→ Mood: 7/10

What did I work on today?

  • Pagetear:

    • Got ahead of a few tasks (writing emails and LP copy as usual) for multiple clients. Feels good to have a day to be proactive rather than reactive.

    • No discoveries today, no pitching. Yet again I feel guilty for not promoting this biz today.

  • Ghostwriting:

    • Nothing on this front today. Learning to compartmentalize these different businesses into clear days of focus, and today wasn’t one of them for ghostwriting.

  • Content:

    • Set up the PH launch for this site.

    • Started reading “Million Dollar Weekend” by Noah Kagan. Been following his work since the OK Dork days, so I know all the talking points. But it got my juices flowing a little at the end of the day on the drive to school. Got a couple business ideas in my back pocket now.

What did I struggle with today?

  • Half day of work, which meant blitzing through projects instead of taking my time. Blessing and a curse.

  • I spend so much time alone at a computer that I’ve become more irritable around people (namely my family). I’m an extrovert, so flipping that switch to an introvert lifestyle is tough. And zoom calls don’t really have a positive impact there weirdly. So have to remind myself to be more chill, less intense with people.

What did Iearn today?

  • Idea capture: voice dictation is so underrated. I set up my action button on my iPhone to bring up a Lazy.so note, and today all my ideas came in the car. Dictation totally saved me and got some great stuff on paper — safely.

  • Constraint breeds production. Productivity is kind of a farce. Give yourself less time, and the task still gets done on time.

What questions am I asking today?

  • What’s a good next business idea I actually want to build?

  • How can I live more in the moment with my family — especially with 100s of distractions surrounding us?
